Care & Maintenance
Caring for your cutting board properly is important for maintaining its durability, cleanliness, and overall appearance. Here are some tips to help you keep your cutting board in good condition:
1. Clean your cutting board after each use: Use hot, soapy water and a sponge or brush to clean your cutting board thoroughly after each use. Rinse with hot water and dry completely with a clean towel.
2. Never put a wooden cutting board in a dishwasher. The high heat and harsh detergents used in dishwashers can damage the wood, causing it to warp, crack, or split. Additionally, the moisture from the dishwasher can cause the wood to absorb water and swell, which can also lead to warping or cracking.
3. Oil your cutting board regularly: To prevent your cutting board from drying out and cracking, oil it regularly with food-grade mineral oil or a specialized cutting board oil. Apply the oil generously, let it sit for a few hours or overnight, then wipe off any excess.
4. Do not soak your cutting board in water, as this can cause it to warp or crack.
5. Store your cutting board upright: Storing your cutting board upright on its edge can help air circulate around it evenly, which can help prevent moisture from getting trapped underneath. Unequal distribution of moisture is what will causes a board to wobble and warp.
